Kick Off
Oh hello. Fancy seeing you here. Football eh? 22 men or women kicking a ball about or something. Give me a sec, I’ll get my bearings back soon.
So a lot has happened in the month since I last sent out a TWUTAB. I’m not going to go through it all here, we’d both be bored silly if I did.
This week though we’ve had José Mourinho sacked, which is always a great time, Everton and Forest have had charges brought against them under PSR rules, Jordan Henderson looks set to terminate his contract with Al-Ettifaq and join Ajax and at the weekend, AFCON and the Asian Cup started.
Here, have this screengrab of how I paused a video about Mourinho.
And today, Ivan Toney’s ban ended meaning he may be available to play for Brentford on Saturday.
In the leagues we’re currently getting back to normal with resumptions after winter breaks, although in England we’re having a weird half on half off break where a single gameweek is being played across a fortnight and then we come back and cram in the FA Cup and a full Premier League program across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
There’s not really a great deal more to say at the moment to be honest so I’m going to keep it short and sweet for now, ease back in as it were.
Half Time
I could talk about Jordan Henderson and Saudi, Joey Barton, VAR, PFP and PSR, the coverage of AFCON and the Asian Cup but I just don’t have it in me to write anything incisive or captivating. Plus, it’s mid January, the world is a binfire and it’s fucking freezing, so let’s keep it warm and light.
Full Time
The problem recently, I think, is that not only have I been both having a break and then a longer break and then an ‘ah I can’t be bothered’, is that the Content on twitter at the moment isn’t massively inspiring. I want fun, cool, interesting tidbits to put in this section and stuff just isn’t hitting the spot as much anymore.
Anyway, there is still some good stuff out there, starting with this article about how clubs perform due diligence on players. I was watching the Overlap with my husband and we were discussing how clubs do this and then lo, the day after this article arrived! It’s fascinating and both impressive and a little bit disturbing (the bit about the way they can check up on them online is a bit grim).
Mary Earps looked stunning at the Best awards on Monday
Still furious you can’t embed tweets anymore and I have to link them, but please please click this link and watch the video of Jake Livermore’s second goal against QPR at the weekend, I promise it’s worth it.
Palestine scored an historic goal in their 4-1 loss to Iran in the Asian Cup and they wore the banging track tops.
This burger at Abbey Rangers FC, fuck me
And this cake at Bedworth United is 30p. THIRTY PENCE!!
I quite like this joke of mine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s VERY IMPORTANT you click through to see London City Lionesses newest mascot.
The Times were extremely upset that a linesman didn’t raise his flag during Newcastle v. City at the weekend.
Jadon Sancho came home
Burnley signed David Datro Fofana on loan for the rest of the season and posted the most unhinged announcement video you’ve ever seen.
And finally something to warm the cockles, this is lovely from Villa and a Junior Bake Off contestant.
Shirt of the Week
Part of what’s prompted me to write again was this kit. It’s so good, so chic, so gorgeous, that I couldn’t just tweet it and leave it at that. But first, let me let you know,/remind you/whatever that I posted my AFCON Shirt Review today.
Victoria Park Vixens are an inclusive club in Hackney who are always fashion forward, their home kit is also gorgeous but this is beautiful. I love the green and gold, the black buttons on the placket but the killer detail is the the stripes on the collar and cuffs. It’s painfully on trend, it reminds me of cool dinnerware and pots you can get on sites like Trouva but man alive I love it.
Thirst Trap
I tweeted that if I ever wrote another edition of this newsletter then Noni Madueke would be the Thirst Trap, and so…this week’s Thirst Trap is
Noni Madueke
Whenever I see him play, or interviewed after a match I just think yeah, you’re really handsome, what a nice face. I like his thick headband and ponytail, he’s got a lovely smile and he seems like a good guy.
Well there we go. I’m back I guess, we’ll see how it goes!
